WHO WE ARE?

The San Mateo Self-Defense Club is a student-run community club for anyone who wants to build self confidence, sharpen awareness, and practice real-world self-defense skills.
We are a CSM student organization and open to all students, all skill levels.

Our weekly sessions combine:

  • Light Stretch & Dynamic Warm-Up – accessible to every body type and fitness level.
  • Strategy Workshops – peer-led discussions and scenario drills to develop critical thinking, de-escalation, and personal safety planning.
  • Guided Meditation & Visualization – short mental rehearsals to lock in strategy and calm under pressure.
  • Open-Mat Practice – learn and drill the same techniques covered in the CSM online self-defense course.

Whether you’re brand-new to martial arts or already training, the club provides a supportive space to learn, move, and grow with fellow Bulldogs.

Confidence is the first line of defense.

The San Mateo Self-Defense Club helps you cultivate it step by step:

  1. Situational Awareness & Strategy
    • Learn to read your environment, identify exits, and anticipate risks.
    • Practicing these habits in a supportive group makes calm decision-making second nature.
  2. Mind–Body Training
    • Guided breathing, light warm-ups, and skill drills teach you to control adrenaline and stay centered under pressure.
    • You’ll leave each session with the physical readiness and mental clarity to act when it counts.
  3. Progressive Skill Mastery
    • Weekly open-mat sessions let you see measurable improvement—each new technique reinforces that you can protect yourself if needed.
    • Small wins compound into lasting confidence you carry beyond the mat.
  4. Community Support
    • Training alongside fellow students builds trust and accountability.
    • Sharing scenarios and role-plays with peers creates the assurance that you’re not alone in keeping yourself safe.
